Wellness

First and foremost, we are dedicated to promoting wellness in our community. Whether you stop in for a soothing massage or meet with one of our dedicated counselors, we want you to feel at home and get the care you need. Yes, our wellness professionals run their own businesses, but collectively we hope to create a welcoming space for our community to heal, gather, and inspire others.

We want to help you on your wellness journey by providing appropriate tools to make you a healthier and happier human being.

Sustainability

What makes something truly sustainable? We hope that with our research and collaboration with our community, we can help you practice better habits that benefit both you and our environment. Some of the things we take under consideration is staying local whenever possible, repurposing materials for our biophilic-designed space, and using greener energy that both conserves and enhances.

In order to be sustainable, wellbeing should be pursued in a balanced and responsible (human-nature relationship) way. As most are aware, we live in a world that perceives nature as a resource, primarily for human consumption. However, that doesn’t mean it’s limitless nor healthy as-is.

We welcome any ideas about how to incorporate better environmentally- and community-friendly measures!

“The relationship between humankind and nature can be one of respect and love rather than domination…The outcome…can be rich, satisfying, and lastingly successful, but only if both partners are modified by their association so as to become better adapted to each other…With our knowledge and sense of responsibility…we can create new environments that are ecologically sound, aesthetically satisfying, economically rewarding…This process of reciprocal adaptation occurs…through minor changes in the people and their environment, but a more conscious process of design can also take place.”

Biophilic Interior Design & Research

The average American spends about 90% of their life indoors, meaning, a majority of the time people’s dopamine and energy levels are diminished. We hope to increase focus, happiness, and overall wellbeing with the design of our building.

It is unfortunate that the most dominant approach to modern buildings, landscapes, and interior design treats nature like an obstacle, something to overcome. There is an increasing disconnect between people and nature in the built environment, reflected as insufficient contact with natural light/views, materials, ventilation, vegetation, etc.

A biophilic, wellness-focused interior design may sound confusing, but it really is meant to be simple–and you may already have seen the benefits of it. For example, smart lighting systems, are used to better match our natural bodies’ rhythms and balance vitamin D levels. Other benefits include improving productivity, alertness, and mood.

To create a good habitat for people in the modern built environment that advances people’s health, fitness, and wellbeing overall, we need repeated and sustained engagement with nature. This means, having plants and running water to feel and hear is actually helping our bodies and brains relax and become healthier, so to speak. We want to also encourage emotional attachment to this nature, and we know Waupaca is surrounded by it!

Another aspect of biophilic design is how it “promotes positive interactions between people and nature, encouraging an expanded sense of relationship and responsibility for human/natural communities” – The Practice of Biophilic Design by Yale professor S. Kellert & LEED-AP architect E. Calabrese. Community is a huge part of wellness and even sustainability, and that’s why we welcome anyone and everyone that want to better themselves.

We understand how difficult it may be to learn how to increase your wellbeing without leaving such an impact on the environment, and your wallet. The process is different for every body and soul, but the outcome is the same.
